Kimberly Skiba to Speak at Oliver Hill/Samuel Tucker Prelaw Institute

Kimberly Skiba was invited by the Young Lawyers Conference of the Virginia State Bar to speak at the Oliver Hill/Samuel Tucker Prelaw Institute. The Institute targets, at no cost to the participants, minority high school students who are interested in exploring the legal profession. Skiba presented a one-hour program on closing arguments.

Joe Owen featured on Radio Podcast

Virginia Public Radio reported on a legislative commission that advises the General Assembly on small business concerns is considering whether to recommend changes in the process that courts use for civil lawsuits. Joe Owen was quoted in WVTF’s Podcast about the Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s tort reform package proposed as a means of saving both time and money in lawsuits filed against businesses. Founding Partners of Owen & Owens Named to 2010 Virginia 'Super Lawyers'

The law firm of Owen & Owens is proud to announce that all three founding partners, W. Joseph Owen III, Mary Burkey Owens and Samuel J. Kaufman, were voted by their peers for the 2010 edition of Law & Politics’ Virginia Super Lawyers®. Only five percent of active licensed attorneys in Virginia are selected for inclusion after extensive peer review and editorial research.

For the second year in a row, Mary Burkey Owens received the added distinction as one of the “Top 25 Female Super Lawyers” in Virginia which indicates she received one of the highest point totals in the nomination, research and blue ribbon review process. Owens chairs the firm’s family law team and also practices real estate law and civil litigation.  She is a founding member and former president of the Metro Richmond Family Law Bar and past president of the Chesterfield County Bar Association.

Sam Kaufman was named as a Virginia Super Lawyer “Rising Star” for the second year. He primarily focuses his practice in general and civil litigation, real estate and business law.  Kaufman is a past chairman of the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce and serves as Vice President for Planning and Operations of the University of Richmond Alumni Association.

Joe Owen is a successful trial lawyer representing individuals and businesses in civil and commercial litigation, criminal defense, personal injury, real estate, estate planning, corporate and construction law.  He is chairman of the Drug Court Foundation of Chesterfield/Colonial Heights and a statewide leader with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Jace Padden to Speak to MRFLBA on Retrieving and Using Electronic Evidence in Family Law Litigation

Mary Burkey Owens to Present "Drafting Premarital Agreements in Virginia"

Domestic relations attorneys are often required to advise individuals contemplating marriage or planning to live together about whether they need some form of agreement to protect their assets. Owens was the instructor for the Virginia CLE seminar on "Drafting Premarital Agreements in Virginia," covering the legal and ethical issues regarding drafting and preserving premarital agreements. All Partners at Owen & Owens Named in Super Lawyers Section of Richmond Magazine

Mary Burkey Owens was named a Virginia Super Lawyer for 2009. This is the third time Mary has received this honor. She was also named one of the Top 25 Women Lawyers in Virginia. Mary’s practice focuses on family law and real estate.

Joe Owen was also named a Virginia Super Lawyer for 2009. This is the second year he has received this honor. Joe has a general practice which includes civil and criminal litigation at all trial levels.

Sam Kaufman was named a 2009 Virginia Rising Star. The Rising Star designation recognizes lawyers age 40 and under. Sam has a general practice with a focus on litigation and business matters.
