MIDLOTHIAN, VA (November 15, 2011) – The law firm of Owen & Owens is proud to announce that Mary Burkey Owens was named one of the “2011 Legal Elite” by Virginia Business Magazine.

This year Virginia Business Magazine received more than 1,600 ballots from members of the Virginia State Bar. Members nominated those Virginia lawyers they believed were the most outstanding representatives of their profession in a variety of practice areas.

Owens has been recognized in Virginia Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite” in the domestic relations category since 2001. She is the leader of the firm’s Family Law Team and has handled complex custody, divorce, support and equitable distribution cases for over 25 years. She is also trained as both a mediator and a collaborative lawyer. Owens is a founding member and former president of the Metro Richmond Family Law Bar and past president of the Chesterfield County Bar Association. She has also served on the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Committee and Professionalism Course Faculty. Since 2006 Owens has been selected for “Virginia Super Lawyers” in the family law category, and for the third year in a row, she has received the added distinction as one of the “Top 25 Female Super Lawyers” in Virginia.

Owens is well-respected among her peers and has achieved MartindaleHubbell’s highest AV® Preeminent rating for legal ability and ethical standards. Earlier this year, she was honored by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as one of the “Influential Women of Virginia” who are making notable contributions to their profession and community.
