About Us

Owen & Owens PLC was founded on the premise “EVERY CLIENT MATTERS.” Partners W. Joseph Owen III, Mary Burkey Owens, Samuel J. Kaufman, and Julie M. Cillo, along with associates Jordana Kaufman, Wyatt Taylor, Mallory Brennan, Bennette H. Sharpe IV, and Lindsay Dugan are interested in people first, not simply their legal issues. The attorneys at Owen & Owens PLC are interested in helping people during what are often the most difficult and challenging situations of their lives. Owen & Owens’ depth and breadth of legal expertise and caring attitude toward everyone they represent sets them apart from other law firms.

The firm breaks its many practice areas into three major categories of representation:Family Law, Personal Representation and Commercial Representation.

The attorneys at Owen & Owens PLC are experienced in handling all types of Family Law matters, including divorce, custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, property settlement agreements, prenuptial agreements and adoption. Mary Burkey Owens, the leader of the Family Law Team, is a well known and respected attorney who has devoted more than twenty years to championing the causes of those embroiled in domestic relations issues. She is one of the founding members and former President of the Metro Richmond Family Law Bar Association and has been selected by her peers as one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” in the family law area.

Owen & Owens PLC also has vast experience providing Personal Representation to its clients in areas such as personal injury, criminal law, civil litigation, real estate matters and wills and estate planning. Joe Owen leads the Personal Representation Team at Owen & Owens. For more than thirty years, Joe Owen has brought the same commitment and dedication to the courtroom that he took to the football field as a University of Richmond Spider football player. His fierce dedication to the firm’s clients, combined with his proven experience and courtroom savvy, set him apart.

In addition to his work on the Personal Representation Team, Sam Kaufman leads the Commercial Representation Team at Owen & Owens. Owen & Owens serves businesses in numerous capacities including corporate and business law, real estate, creditors rights, construction law and commercial litigation. As the immediate Past-Chairman of the Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce, Sam brings with him a practical knowledge of the challenges many businesses face. His blend of courtroom and transactional experience allows him to uniquely assess these challenges and craft solutions to help the firm’s clients succeed in today’s often tumultuous business climate.
